AUCKLAND COST GUIDE / JULY 2026

Plasterboard installation cost, separated by stage.

Use these public Auckland market ranges to prepare a budget, then request a written project quote. They are not Harbour Lining Supply prices and cannot be added together until overlapping work and inclusions are removed.

Important pricing boundary

Stopping prices do not include plasterboard sheets or hanging the board. Fixing prices may mean hanging only or may include tape, a base coat and sanding. GST treatment also varies between published sources. The accepted quote must state every inclusion in writing.

PLANNING RANGES

Budget each stage before comparing totals.

StagePublic rangePlanning scope
Board supply referenceNZ$10–30/m²Board only. Brand, thickness, quantity and evidence vary; freight and delivery are separate.
Standard wall fixingNZ$35–50/m²Typical wall hanging and fastening. Confirm whether screws, adhesive, tape or any base coat are included.
Standard ceiling fixingNZ$40–60/m²Typical-height ceiling installation. Battens, access equipment and stopping may be separate.
High ceiling fixingNZ$55–75/m²Published planning range for ceilings above about 3 m. Scaffolding may still be extra.
Standard stoppingNZ$25–45/m²Jointing and sanding on installed board. Board supply and fixing are normally excluded.
Skim / higher finishNZ$40–70/m²Full-surface skim or extra preparation. Confirm the required finish level and paint-readiness.
Existing board removalNZ$15–30/m²Removal only. Protection, disposal, hidden damage and making good may be separate.
Small-job minimumFrom about NZ$229 + GSTA published Auckland mobilisation example for work below about 25 m²; contractor minimums differ.

Ranges are market-planning references observed from public Auckland guides in July 2026. They are not a price offer, quotation or representation that every installer includes the same materials or work.

DO NOT SIMPLY ADD

Published definitions overlap.

  • A fixing rate may cover hanging only, or hanging plus tape and a base coat
  • A stopping rate may assume correctly fixed new board and standard-height rooms
  • Ceilings, multiple layers, high walls and complex cuts increase handling time
  • Small projects carry setup, travel and repeat-visit costs across fewer square metres
  • Board, delivery, scaffolding, protection, demolition, disposal and GST may be excluded

For a complete project, ask for one non-overlapping total after every line has been defined. Public bundled supply-and-install ranges can be lower than adding separate retail ranges because of project scale and overlapping labour.

OUR QUOTE FORMAT

Six lines keep the final number understandable.

01Product

Board price per sheet, sheet area, exact SKU and evidence status

02Freight and import

Sea freight, port, clearance, taxes and other landed-cost items

03Auckland delivery

Truck, unloading, HIAB, carry distance, waiting and access

04Fixing

Walls, ceilings, layers, framing, cuts, fasteners, adhesive and labour

05Stopping

Tape, compound, coats, sanding and the agreed finish level

06Site extras

Protection, scaffolding, demolition, disposal, cleanup and variations

AREA BASIS

Use lining area, not floor area.

A 150 m² house does not have only 150 m² of plasterboard. Walls and ceilings are measured separately. Multiple layers count again, while openings, waste, sheet layout and difficult cuts affect the usable quantity and labour.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before using a per-m² number.

01Does fixing include the board?

Do not assume it does. The written quote must identify board supply, fasteners, adhesive, tape, compound, sanding and GST.

02Can I add every range?

No. Remove overlapping work first. Some fixing packages already include parts of stopping.

03What area is measured?

Normally the actual wall and ceiling lining area, with layers, waste, openings and difficult work considered separately.
